160 mobile payment, banking, trading, and lending apps from around the world were audited based on OWASP mobile app security guidelines, and findings were then consolidated into this report.

The report exposes common vulnerabilities and includes recommendations to help finance organizations understand and mitigate their mobile app risks. Among the findings: 

  • 77% of financial apps have at least one critical or high level vulnerability
  • 88% of financial apps have mishandled/weak encryption
  • UK finance apps contained far fewer security issues than apps from other regions
  • 74% of the high-level threats discovered could have been mitigated using application protection technologies such as code obfuscation, tampering detection, and white-box cryptography
